Due to low permeability of clay soil, pore water trapped in this soil cannot come out in a short period of time.The Floradrain (FFD-8), prefabricated drain can be placed vertically to depths as large as 40 m. Under pressure in extra hydrostatic pressure, water flows through the jute filter sheath as well as into the channels of core coir where it is set vertically out of the soil. This may be either down or up to intersecting natural layers, or to the surface where a blanket of sand drainage or jute-coir prefabricated strip drains are supplied. The water in the soil has to cover the distance to the closest drain to meet a free drainage path. Commonly, the drains are placed in a triangular configuration of 1 - 10 meters, depending on the desirable time of consolidation. As a result of this technique of accelerating the process of consolidation, settlements of uneven post-construction can be almost eliminated.
